Growth Rates

Smart chicks Sassos are chicks bred from the SA31A hybrid female. These birds live free range in  flocks  of up to 200  birds on our small farm in Somerset and the eggs are hatched by us. Please Note: Smart Chick Sassos are not imported as eggs from Continental Europe and hatched in the UK.

The growth rates in the tables come directly from Sasso but we have found that the British climate and our customers choice of feed can slow that growth rate down and so we aim to finish our table birds at about 12 weeks (84 days) remember that the weights shown are live weight not oven ready!

Rhode Island Red T44 table bird growth rates on standard growers pellets. Although these come from slow growing strains you may wish to reduce the quantity of growers pellets fed and increase the amount of mixed corn. This will slow down the growth rate and may fit with your system and the weights that you require. Remember that weather conditions and access to extensive free range as opposed to minimum requirements for free range will also slow down the growth rate and improve the flavour of the bird.
